Rename Master Side Note

The version on the last release of Rename Master is v2.9.1, but the executable still reads as v2.9.0. This is the correct release but the version number is incorrect and can be ignored for now.

Rename Master v2.9.1 Release

The release of Rename Master fixes some issues with the new script format (from v2.9.0) and adds two new features to the new Scripting Interface.

Evacution ... Again

I'm evacuated again, but this time I'm not likely to be back home for a few weeks. Everything is fine, but email will go unanswered for some time.

Website Problems

The server this site is hosted at had a hardware failure that kept the website offline all Sunday and part of Monday morning. The site has been restored from backups and everything seems as it was before the failure.

Rename Master v2.9.0 Release

Version 2.9.0 of Rename Master has been officially released. Most notable changes in this version are Custom Columns and a Scripting View.

The first option, Custom Columns, lets you sort the filelist using using tag data - like a Track Number or a counter. Any meta-variable or combination of variables can be used to populate this column. This can be accessed by right-clicking the column header, or selecting [View->Custom Columns]

The second option, the Scripting View, lets you create any renaming options in any order. Almost any complex renaming can be done with just a single rename instead of two or more renames. This can be accessed by clicking the Toggle Script View button on the lower left of the main window.

A lot was changed behind the scenes to support these two new features. If you spot a bug, be sure to report it. I'm not working on any new features so that I can quickly fix bugs and upload updates.

Rename Master Betas

Take a look at the Public Betas section to get a glimpse of the upcoming changes for the next verison of Rename Master. A new powerful scripting view is being worked on that will ensure that you can do almost any series of renaming options in a single rename.

As always, any feedback you can give me will be helpful.

ArsClip v3.1.1 Release

Version v3.1.1 of ArsClip has been officially released. Many problems have been corrected in this version, so it is a highly recommended update for v3.1.0 users.

This versions mostly contains improved visuals, improved compatibility, and fixes for problems created in v3.1.0.

ArsClip v3.1.0 problems

I've had a few reports of conflicts with the new version of ArsClip causing problems showing the popup menu.

As a workaround, uncheck the 'Edit Selected' option in the Show Order configuration options. In future versions, this option will not be checked by default.

Rename Master Update

Version 2.8.1 of Rename Master has been released. This release includes a re-worked Meta-Variables window (aka Advanced Insert) and some new JPEG, MP3, and Renumber "Quick Insert" options.

Also, may bugs were fixed in this release so it is a recommended update for the 2.8.0 version.

Website Trivia

This is just a bit of trivia about the traffic on this website, for those that are interested. This is just surfing traffic, not downloads (Zip files account for 61% of all traffic).

There are, on average, 500 visitors a day that view 2.5 pages each visit.

8 Gigabytes (yes 8) are used each month in traffic and the largest file on this website is only about 600 Kilobytes. This means that 3.1 Gigabytes is actually used for generating webpages.

90 percent of daily traffic is from new visitors.

Each vistor spends an average of 2 minutes on the site.

27 percent of traffic is direct, 49 percent is from a link on another site, and 24 percent is from a search engine.

25 percent of pages viewed is the home page, 24 percent is "Rename Master", 10 percent is "ArsClip", the rest is spread among other pages. The "RSS Feed" accounts for the highest percentage of hits, but most of the hits are from readers and not from users.

The amount of traffic used for pictures is almost equal to the amount used by HTML code.

A New Rename Master - Comments Back Online

Version 2.8.0 of Rename Master has been released. This is the first step in making RM an easier to use program. I've more ideas for future improvements based off the changes in this version.

In this version, a major overhall of the interface has been performed. Support for XP and Vista Themes has been added to modernize the GUI as well as updated graphics. Navigating with the Tab key has also been improved.

Performance of folder browsing has been significantly increased to work better with removable media. The last selected item will also be reposition when you next show the folder browser. Scanning has been reduced for all non-fixed disks also to improve browsing speeds. Any location with a large number of folders will be shown much faster in the Folder Browser.

I've added 2 items to the Help menu. One item is for new users to show the usual steps that are performed. It identifies each part of the program with an actual screenshot of the running program. The second item is a new Renaming Options Wizard to reduce the renaming options down into only a few steps. Advanced users can still manually set the renaming options tabs - which have also been improved.

--------

Also, Comments are now back online. As always, send me email instead if you want a response. The comment section and my email address are at the bottom of every page.

Due to the number of changes, I still expect some bugs to be present in this Rename Master release. Fixes to minor bugs will be uploaded in the Public Betas section, but major bug fixes will likely be uploaded as an official release.

Yet Another Rename Master Release

Version 2.7.6 of Rename Master is officially released. The new things in this release are separate Date Modified and Created Date columns - for easier sorting and renaming - and a new Remove renaming feature with optional moving.

If memory serves me, every change in this release is in response to user feedback.

Downtime

It's that time of year again, time to gut and rebuild my system. Email will probably go unanswered for a few days if something goes rather wrong.

Anyways, I'm still looking for feedback for the next release of Rename Master. If you wan't to see the current changes first hand, take a look at the latest Public Beta. There's a new renaming option (remove with an optional move) and room for more improvement before the next official relesae.

EDIT: All went well, easiest upgrade I've ever done.

Rename Master Released

Version 2.7.5 of Rename Master has been released.

Though it's mostly bug fixes, there is a new "On Collision append" renaming option that will automatically add a trailing number to files to make the filename unique. Also, in a separate optional download, a Right-Click addon for Explorer allows you to open selected files with Explorer's right-click menu or by using "Send To" command.

Thanks again to all that helped with feedback on the Public Beta versions of the programs.
